Ralph Shoemaker began their career in 1974 as an Engineering Aid at Rochester Instrument Systems. In 1976, they took on an Engineering Intern role at the University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Ralph then joined Xerox Corporation in 1977, where they held various roles including Engineering Manager/Sensor Engineer, Member of Research and Technology Staff, Technical Specialist/Project Manager, and Engineering Aide/Engineer/Senior Engineer. In 2013, they became an Engineering Consultant - Part Time at New Scale Technologies, where they were responsible for supply chain development and production supplier qualification, project management, critical path analysis and scheduling, and cost analysis and cost reduction.

Ralph Shoemaker attended the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1972 to 1976, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
