Tamara Hatch Ruggiero has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Tamara began their career as a Reporter and Copy Editor for Frederick News-Post in 1993 and worked there until 1996. Tamara then moved on to work as an Editor for Words & Numbers from June 2001 to May 2002, and later as an Editor for CUPA-HR from May 2002 to January 2003. Tamara then joined Adventist HealthCare as a Manager of Community Relations from January 2003 to January 2005.
From there, Tamara joined the American Kidney Fund (AKF) and held multiple roles within the organization. Tamara started as a Director of Communications from January 2005 to January 2007, where they wrote the organization's 2015-18 Strategic Plan. Tamara then became the Vice President of Communications and Marketing from January 2007 until July 2022, reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Team. In this role, they were responsible for the governance and operations of the $250 million nonprofit.
Finally, Tamara currently holds the position of Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at the American Kidney Fund, starting in July 2022.
Tamara Hatch Ruggiero earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Journalism from Boston University, where they studied from 1989 to 1993. Tamara later pursued their Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Education at Mount St. Mary's University, from 1996 to 1998.
