Colleen Kavanagh

Colleen Kavanagh has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Starting in 1990, they worked as a Legislative Assistant for Congressman George Miller. In 1995, they became the Director of Government Affairs for the School Nutrition Association. From 1998 to 2000, they served as the Assistant Director and Active Executive Director at California Food Policy Advocates, where they managed a statewide nutrition advocacy program and wrote and managed grants. In 2003, they joined the San Francisco USD Food and Fitness Committee as a Committee Member until 2015. In 2007, they founded A Better Course (formerly Campaign for Better Nutrition) and served as the Executive Director, focusing on improving the nutrition of low-income children through policy development, advocacy, fundraising, and team building. Currently, they are the Co-Founder and CEO of ZEGO, a food startup that produces purity-transparent packaged food tested for various chemicals. Their work at ZEGO involves all aspects of running a food startup, including visioning, market fit, product development, marketing, design, operations, press, and finance.

Colleen Kavanagh completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Economics with a BA in Political Science from Vanderbilt University between 1985 and 1989. Later, from 1993 to 1996, they pursued their Master of Public Policy degree in Public Policy Analysis at Georgetown University.
