Carla Duarte

Frontend Engineer, Design System at Webflow

Carla Duarte has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering and technology. Carla is currently working as an Associate Frontend Engineer at Webflow since 2022. Prior to that, Carla worked at edX as a Software Engineer II from June 2021 to January 2022, where they played a key role in translating the course experience from Django templates to React. Carla also worked as a Software Engineer I at edX from May 2020 to June 2021, where they contributed to various projects such as rebuilding the in-course Progress experience, performing accessibility audits, and creating the company's first Hispanic/Latinx ERG.

Carla has also gained experience as a Software Engineer Intern at Juniper Networks from January 2020 to March 2020. Additionally, they worked as a Web Developer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from October 2019 to December 2019, where they assisted in the development of an internal project management tool using Laravel.

Before that, Carla served as a Software Engineer Intern at edX from May 2019 to August 2019. During their time there, they collaborated on building a new course tool called Publisher and played a role in developing front-end features and custom components using React and Redux.

Carla also has experience as a Teaching Assistant at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where they assisted in the undergraduate and graduate sections of the Computer Graphics course. Carla worked as a Research Assistant at NUST Namibia, where they collaborated with a team to address the promotion of STEM education at the primary school level. Furthermore, they gained valuable industry experience as a Hanover Technology Group Intern at The Hanover Insurance Group, where they developed an automated data extraction process using SQL, Java, Python, and PDFMiner.

Lastly, Carla worked as an IT Support Technician Intern at Sensitech, where they evaluated database monitoring tools and documented their features for the Technology Team.

Carla Duarte completed their high school education at Pinkerton Academy from 2012 to 2016, where they obtained a high school diploma. Afterwards, Carla attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 2016 to 2020, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.

In addition to their formal education, Carla also obtained several certifications. In September 2020, they received the edX Verified Certificate for Unconscious Bias: From Awareness to Action from edX. In February 2021, they completed the IAAP CPACC Certification Preparation at Deque Systems, Inc. Moreover, they became a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) through the IAAP - International Association of Accessibility Professionals in April 2021.
