Zheng Wang has been a Data Scientist at Vital Data Technology, LLC since 2017. Prior to that, they were a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Southern Methodist University from 2009-2017. As a Research Assistant, they designed and implemented efficient and scalable algorithms for large-scale partial SVD and EVD computations, with applications to the fields of information retrieval and machine learning. Zheng improved the computational efficiency by 100%-400% and reduced the memory cost by at least 50%, as compared to ARPACK and PROPACK in MATLAB, on calculating partial SVD and EVD of large matrices with millions of rows and/or columns. Zheng also processed real-world data in various formats into matrices in MATLAB. As a Teaching Assistant, they led scientific computing lab sections and lectured on concepts, algorithms and coding techniques necessary for students to complete their projects. Zheng also assisted in a variety of math courses including Pre-Calculus, Basic Statistics, Introduction to Linear Algebra, etc. and held help sessions to explain homework problems and help students preparing for tests.
Zheng Wang received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2009. Zheng then went on to pursue a Master of Science (MS) in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Southern Methodist University in 2011. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Southern Methodist University in 2015.
