Lixun Qi has had a diverse range of work experiences. Starting from 2000 at Verizon Business as a Sr Network Engineer, Lixun then moved on to T-Systems in 2005 as a Lead Network Engineer. In 2013, Lixun joined Deutsche Telekom AG as a Director/Architect Real-Time NSM, before transitioning to Comcast in 2015 as the Sr Director of SDN/NFV. In 2017, Lixun became the Head of Versa Titan Development at Versa Networks, where they successfully developed and implemented the Versa Titan product. Currently, Lixun is working at Freddie Mac as a Sr Tech Lead, beginning in 2018.

Lixun Qi completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an unspecified field of study from Beihang University from 1990 to 1994. Lixun then pursued a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, studying from 1994 to 1996. Lixun Qi continued their education at the University of Maryland, where they obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, completing their studies from 1996 to 2000.

In addition to their formal education, Lixun Qi has obtained several certifications. In December 2019, they became certified in "AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty" and "Amazon Web Services Security Specialty" from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
