Shelley E. Brown

Senior Director, Medical Affairs at Vericel

Shelley E. Brown, PhD, MDiv has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Shelley is currently the Director of Medical Affairs at Vericel Corporation, where they are responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Prior to this role, they worked as a Medical Science Liaison at the same company, providing non-promotional scientific services within the Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine portfolio.

Before joining Vericel Corporation, Shelley was a S&T Policy Fellow at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). Shelley also gained research experience as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focusing on cancer therapeutics and investigating the role of microRNAs in cell signaling.

In addition to their scientific work, Shelley has served in ministry positions at Western Avenue Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, MI. Shelley has been involved in mentoring programs and organizing educational workshops on careers in STEM fields.

Earlier in their career, Shelley worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, conducting research on bone tissue engineering using human embryonic stem cells. Shelley also gained industry experience as a Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Laboratory Research Technician at Corn Products International.

Shelley E. Brown, PhD, MDiv holds a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree in Science, Religion, and Policy from Harvard Divinity School. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. Additionally, they pursued further education at the University of Michigan, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering, as well as a Master's degree in the same field.
