UnitedMasters has taken the bold step of building a music distribution service that, radically, puts artists first - disrupting the legacy music business by letting up-and-coming artists distribute their music directly to fans through streaming services while maintaining ownership of their master recording rights and up to 100% of royalties. Through the combination of UnitedMasters’ music distribution platform and its deep ties to brands, UnitedMasters enables independent artists and change-makers to grow and earn unlike any other platform.

The UnitedMasters team is made up of musicians, marketers, engineers, and storytellers with backgrounds from YouTube, SoundCloud, Pandora, Facebook, Uber, Dropbox, Complex, VICE, and more. We work hand in hand with the award-winning creative teams that forge those innovative partnerships at Translation (our in-house creative advertising agency).


We are looking for a Director, Strategic Partnerships to join UnitedMasters! Please note that this role is a Hybrid role: three days in office and two days remote.


What You'll Do

UnitedMasters is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Head of Strategic Partnerships. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Development, you will work cross functionally with our product, sales, marketing, music, legal and finance teams to drive value through our new and existing partners by implementing successful execution that align with the company’s overall business objectives. You will be responsible for getting ahead of the curve in the music landscape, bringing value to our artists and understanding the needs of our users. The initiatives you bring in will help shape the careers of more than 2M artists on our platform.Ìý

  • Set our Strategic Partnerships strategy and lead in its execution, working closely with our Senior Leadership Team, providing UnitedMasters artists with unique opportunities to earn and grow while positioning UnitedMasters as a leader in the MusicTech/Creator ecosystem.
  • Spearhead the next version of UnitedMasters through creative ideas, partnerships and growth initiativesÌý
  • Source, negotiate and execute deals that bring value to the UnitedMasters and its roster of artists.
  • Own relationships with existing partners to grow and deepen those partnerships, identifying supplemental opportunities that add value to UnitedMasters and to our partners.
  • Lead strategic and complex negotiations, engaging cross-functionally with Product, Sales, Marketing, Music, Legal, Finance and executive team to ensure alignment across teams on deal terms.
  • Build out opportunities throughout the deal lifecycle, including commercial agreements, due diligence, alignment from both internal and external parties and successfully integrate for business success.
  • Lead a small team, including a Strategic Partnerships Associate, to grow and scale our strategic initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work in fast paced start-up environment and prioritize and execute at a high level, mult-disciplinary role
  • Ability and experience sourcing, closing and executing partnerships in the tech and/or music industries
  • Ability to work cross collaboratively with various business teams and external parties
  • Team player who works with empathy and humilityÌý

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in Strategic Partnerships, Business Development, strategy, management consulting or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA a plus
  • Experience in technology, music is a plus, but not required

Salary Hiring Range: $210,000 - $245,000

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of many compensation, benefits and other reward opportunities we provide (e.g. bonus, stock options, 401(k) match, etc.)

Individual pay rate decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.Ìý We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors.Ìý
