Rúben Gonçalves has a diverse range of work experience in the scientific and research fields. Rúben started their career as an intern at the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre in 2016. Rúben furthered their research experience by working as a Graduate Research Student at i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, where they focused on studying cell signaling pathways related to a rare neurodegenerative disease. Rúben then worked as a Funded Researcher at the same institute, specializing in genetic engineering of Synechocystis sp. mutant strains for immunization purposes.

In 2019, they joined FairJourney Biologics as a Junior Research Associate, where they conducted antibody engineering using Phage Display techniques for large pharmaceutical companies.

Rúben's next position was as the lead Biochemist at Chip[s] Board LTD. Rúben was responsible for developing a manufacturing process for Polylactic acid (PLA) using food waste sources, mainly potatoes. Rúben implemented various processes, including sterilization, enzymatic breakdown, and fermentation, up to a 12L bioreactor scale.

Currently, Rúben is working as a Process Development Scientist at Touchlight DNA Services. Rúben is involved in developing and implementing new dbDNA products and manufacturing platforms. This includes using statistical and data analytics techniques, as well as Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies. Rúben collaborates closely with different departments to optimize manufacturing processes and tailor products to client specifications.

Rúben Gonçalves completed their education in the field of Bioquímica. From 2016 to 2018, they pursued a Mestrado degree at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto. Prior to that, they obtained a Licenciatura degree in Bioquímica from Faculdade de Ciências exatas e da Engenharia da Universidade da Madeira, where they studied from 2013 to 2016. In addition to their academic qualifications, Rúben also received a certification in Six Sigma: Green Belt from LinkedIn in April 2023.
