Alicia Jurek

Senior Officer, Economics at The San Diego Foundation

Alicia Jurek is serving as an economist for the San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center (PIC), Alicia L. Jurek, Ph.D., uses her expertise in research design, quantitative data analysis, and data visualization to develop, test, and implement world-class research and policy-driven solutions to address San Diego’s most pressing challenges. She comes to PIC from San Diego Workforce Partnership where she also served as an economist.

With eight peer-reviewed papers and 11 non-refereed publications, Alicia possesses a stellar ability to provide contextual awareness and actionable insight to complex problems. She has also been invited to present at various conferences and colleges on topics including women in criminal justice and sexual assault kits.

Alicia has taught classes on research methods, gender and crime, victimology, and criminology at Virginia Commonwealth University, Boise State University, Wright State University, her alma mater Sam Houston State University and overseas at Zhejiang Police College in Hangzhou, China to international policing students. She has spent countless hours mentoring and tutoring fellow graduate students as well as judging student paper competitions.

Alicia obtained her Ph.D. and master’s degree in criminal justice and criminology and her bachelor’s in criminal justice all from Sam Houston State University. Throughout her academic career, she garnered over 20 awards and scholarships.
