James Roach has a range of work experience in the legal field. James began their career in 2011 as a Solicitor at Gibson Sheat Lawyers, where they gained expertise in commercial contracts and corporate transactions. At Gibson Sheat Lawyers, James acted as the Primary Legal Advisor for the Wellington Phoenix Football Club and handled the drafting of various commercial contracts. James also managed files and facilitated transactions involving the sale or purchase of businesses. In 2015, James joined Dixons Carphone as a Legal Counsel. Then, in 2017, they joined STH Group, first serving as a General Counsel and later being promoted to the role of Director of Legal and Strategy in October 2021.

James Roach has a diverse education history. James holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in Commercial Law, both from Victoria University of Wellington. James completed their undergraduate studies from 2006 to 2011.

In terms of further education, James completed a Certificate in Business Strategy and Financial Performance from INSEAD in 2020. James also attended Harvard Business School Online in 2022, where they obtained a Certificate in Strategy Execution.

In addition to their formal degree programs, James has earned several certifications. James completed a Leadership and Management Certificate Program from Wharton Online in June 2023. Prior to that, they obtained a certification in Business Strategy and Financial Performance from INSEAD in May 2020. Furthermore, they hold a Practicing Certificate from the New Zealand Law Society, which they obtained in July 2017. Lastly, they are recognized as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, having obtained this designation from the High Court of New Zealand in October 2011.
