John Pluym is an experienced sports journalist and editor with a demonstrated history in leadership roles across prominent media organizations. Currently serving as the Managing Editor for NFL and Golf at Sports Illustrated since April 2022, John previously held significant positions at ESPN from March 2012 to June 2022, where responsibilities included overseeing NFL coverage with a large team of reporters and editors. Earlier in John’s career, roles included Senior Editor for the NFL at the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Deputy Sports Editor, where oversight extended to professional, college, and high school sports coverage. John also served as Design Director at the Wisconsin State Journal, managing the visual presentation of the newspaper. Academic credentials include a B.S. in Mass Communications from Minnesota State, completed in 1990.
