James Wood

Principal Scientist, Program Manager at Southwest Research Institute

James Wood has a diverse work experience in the fields of chemical engineering and microbiology. James started their career as a Senior Research Scientist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where they managed a medical virology laboratory and conducted research projects. James then worked as a Lead Microbiologist for the Department of Defense, where they provided food testing and microorganism identification for all branches of the military. After that, they became the Laboratory Director at the Environmental Microbiology and Chemical Testing Laboratory, overseeing lab operations and management. Later, James worked at Signature Science, LLC as the San Antonio Manager, Program Manager, and Senior Scientist, where they led a team that developed a patented sensor technology. Currently, they are employed at the Southwest Research Institute as a Principal Scientist and Program Manager, where they co-invented a novel heavy crude oil technology that improves the flow properties of heavy crude oil in existing pipelines for transport.

James Wood earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a minor in chemistry from Texas Tech University from 1985 to 1990. From 1993 to 1996, they attended the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, focusing on Microbiology and Immunology. Later, from 2006 to 2008, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a concentration in Project Management at Keller Graduate School of Management.
