Dirk Eggink is a Senior Scientist at RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment since June 2020 and an Assistant Professor at Amsterdam UMC since November 2013. At Amsterdam UMC, Dirk Eggink leads research on the evolution of respiratory viruses, particularly focusing on Influenza and SARS-CoV-2, integrating genetic and functional analyses to investigate polymerase activity, receptor binding, and virus entry. Prior experience includes positions as a Senior Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow in Influenza virus research at Amsterdam UMC and Mount Sinai Medical Center, where Dirk Eggink contributed to the understanding of influenza vaccine development and host adaptation mechanisms. Dirk Eggink holds an MSc in Chemistry from Utrecht University and has completed various postdoctoral fellowships and a PhD in Medical Microbiology from the University of Amsterdam.
