Ian McKay is an accomplished entrepreneur and engineer with a strong background in applied science and energy technologies. As the founder of Orca Sciences, hosted by Gates Ventures in Seattle since 2021, McKay leads innovative projects in scientific applications. In addition, McKay co-founded Peregrine Hydrogen and Savor in 2023 and 2022, respectively. Previous contributions include co-founding Form Energy in 2017 and Open Water Power from 2013 to 2017, where the development and commercialization of a novel corrosion battery took place, ultimately leading to the company’s acquisition by L3 Technologies. Ian McKay holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University and dual degrees (BS and MS) in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
