Luke J. Swetland is the President & CEO at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural Theirtory. Prior to this, they served as Interim Head and Vice President, Planning & Special Projects at The Autry National Center from August 2008 to December 2012. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing a suite of strategic initiatives, including the implementation of the Museum's Strategic Plan, overseeing $20 million of capital improvements for an offsite collections storage and research facility, and relocating the Museum’s collection of more than 500,000 artifacts, two libraries, and supporting staff. Luke also oversaw the completion of a multi-year, multi-million award to undertake structural repairs and collections conservation at the institution’s historic Southwest Museum of the American Indian campus, as well as implementing a multi-million dollar renovation of 18,000 square feet of galleries and public spaces comprising an entire wing of the Museum’s facility in Griffith Park. As the Autry’s primary representative with elected officials and City staff, they managed the political outreach and approvals and public communications in support of each of these initiatives.
