Karen Ocorr is an Assistant Professor at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute since August 2016, where research focuses on developing methods to study heart function in the fruit fly, Drosophila, and identifying cellular mechanisms involved in heart disease, arrhythmia, and aging-related dysfunction. Prior to this role, Karen Ocorr was a Lecturer III at the University of Michigan from 1991 to 2003, responsible for developing and teaching various courses, and co-authoring a significant textbook in biochemistry. Earlier academic training includes postdoctoral research fellowships at Stanford University and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where contributions involved exploring cAMP's role in associative learning in an Aplysia model. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Neurobiology and Behavior from Wesleyan University and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Lehigh University.
