Praveen Kumar Vemula

Senior Scientist at RVAC Medicines

Praveen Kumar Vemula has had extensive work experience in the field of scientific research. Praveen Kumar currently serves as a Senior Scientist at RVAC Medicines since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Eisai US, where they held the role of Senior Scientist from July 2022 to January 2023, and Scientist/Scientist II from July 2020 to June 2022.

Before their time at Eisai US, Praveen was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Harvard University from July 2014 to June 2020. During this period, they achieved significant accomplishments such as completing the first total synthesis of halistatin 1 and 2, developing new one-pot ketone synthesis methodologies, and applying them to the synthesis of halichondrins. Praveen Kumar also developed Ni-catalyzed one-pot addition of alkyl halides to epoxides for the synthesis of the C12-C19 fragment of halichondrin B.

Praveen's work experience includes a role as a Research Associate at CSIR INDIAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY from November 2013 to May 2014, where they focused on scalable synthesis of bedaquiline and studies towards the synthesis of fondaparinux.

Earlier in their career, Praveen pursued their Ph.D. studies at CSIR-INDIAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY from March 2007 to March 2013. Praveen Kumar'sresearch during this time involved the total synthesis of pladienolide B and its analogs, attenols A & B, and (\u2212)-seimatopolide A. Praveen Kumar also developed an asymmetric synthetic route for the \u03b3-amino acid (ADMOA) part of solomonamide A using PEG-400 mediated methodologies.

As a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Rennes in 2010, Praveen gained further experience in their field. Praveen Kumar began their research career as a Research Scientist Trainee at AMRI (Albany Molecular Research Inc.) from September 2006 to January 2007.

Overall, Praveen Kumar Vemula possesses a strong background in scientific research and has made significant contributions in the synthesis of complex molecules and the development of innovative methodologies in the pharmaceutical industry.

Praveen Kumar Vemula earned a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry from Osmania University between 2004 and 2006. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology from 2007 to 2013.
