Tao Pang

Research Scientist at RAI Institute

Tao Pang is a Research Scientist at RAI Institute since February 2023, with a strong background in robotic manipulation and engineering. Previously, Tao served as a Research Assistant at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) from September 2016 to January 2023, focusing on planning, sensing, and control for contact-rich robotics under the guidance of advisor Russ Tedrake. Prior to that role, Tao was an Associate Scientist at Temasek Laboratories at the National University of Singapore from April 2013 to September 2016, where a gasoline-engine-powered quadcopter prototype was developed. Earlier experience includes working as a Mechanical Engineer at HOPE Technik, designing mechanical structures, and participating as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Caltech, implementing path-planning algorithms for a robotic exploration module. Tao holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, along with a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from the National University of Singapore.
