Alek Berends is currently serving as a Trainee Advisor on Radicalization and Democracy at RadarAdvies, with a role in the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) under the European Commission. Previous experiences include positions as RAN Staff and Secretary Support Plan Council for Inclusive Education at Samenwerkingsverband VO Groningen Stad, and Security Ambassador at the Chamber of Commerce. Alek has also engaged as a Global Volunteer for SDG 10 'Reduced Inequalities' at AIESEC in Egypt, supporting young refugees in Alexandria. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University, a Bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Groningen, along with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and a high school diploma from Gomarus College Groningen.
