Chris Root currently serves as the IEEE Board of Directors Division VII Director and IEEE Division VII Director Elect, along with roles as an Industry Advisor at Quanta Technology, LLC, and President of the US National Committee of CIGRE. Previous experience includes Executive Advisor at Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) and Chief Operating Officer at VELCo - Vermont Electric Transmission Corp., overseeing transmission system operations in Vermont. Root has held senior vice president positions at National Grid, including responsibilities for network strategy and transmission & distribution operations across multiple states. Additionally, involvement with IEEE extends to serving as Governing Board Secretary for the IEEE Power and Energy Society and as a member of the Governing Board. Root holds MEng and BSEE degrees in Power and Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Northeastern University, respectively.
