Gerry Castillo

Vice President, Research and IP at PharmaIN

Gerry Castillo has over 25 years of experience in the field of biochemistry. From 1997 to 2005, they worked at ProteoTech Inc. as the Director of Biochemistry, where they conducted protein mapping, retro-inverso peptide drug design, pharmacokinetic studies, and blood brain barrier studies, as well as extraction, purification, and indentification of pharcologically active natural products. Gerry also established SAR and pharmacophore identification systems. From 1994 to 1997, they worked at the University of Washington as a Senior Fellow for Alzheimer’s and Diabetes. During this time, they isolated human Alzheimer's amyloid plaque and identified non-amyloid protein and proteoglycans associated with it. Gerry also developed methods to study the chemistry of amyloid and amylin aggregation, as well as assays for identification of compounds that disrupt amyloid and amylin aggregation. From 2005 to present, they have served as Vice President of Technology and IP, and Director of Research & IP for PharmaIN, Corp.

Gerry Castillo obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc), Honors in Biochemistry from the University of Saskatchewan. Gerry then completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Chemistry/Clinical Chemistry from the University of Windsor. In 1988, Gerry Castillo began their PhD in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, which they completed in 1994. In 2005, they became a Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO. In 2012, they obtained a certification in Regulatory Affairs from the University of Washington.
