Tom Baines has had a diverse work experience. In 2012, they worked as a Bar Waiter at Ramada Inn, where they served food and drink to customers and was bar staff for wedding receptions and other events. In 2013, they were a Summer Researcher at the University of Hanover, where they synthesized new ligands from cheap carbohydrates to be used to enhance catalytic reactions. In 2014, they were a Summer Researcher at the Biocomposites Centre. From 2015 to 2019, they were a PHD Student at the University of Liverpool, where they optimized CdTe solar cell structure by replacing the conventional CdS window layer with CdSe and MgZnO, and investigated Se incorporation into CdTe solar cells and use of MgZnO as the device window layer replacing CdS. Most recently, they have been a Process Engineer at Oxford PV since 2019.
Tom Baines attended Rhosnesni High School from 2004 to 2009. Tom then went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Chemistry, Physics and Electronics from Yale College Wrexham from 2009 to 2011. Following this, they received a Master's Degree in Chemistry from Bangor University from 2011 to 2015. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics from the University of Liverpool from 2015 to 2019.
