Javier Fuentes Izquierdo is a Biological Engineer at Octarine since November 2022, after serving as a Researcher PhD Student at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from September 2017 to November 2022. During the PhD studies, Javier was a member of the GENOCOV group, focusing on the HIPATIA project that investigates the autotrophic granulation of nitrogen removal bacteria in wastewater treatment processes. The research aims to optimize reactor design parameters and operational conditions for aerobic granulation to enhance process efficiency. Prior to this, Javier contributed to the field of bioremediation through a master’s thesis on the recovery of PHA from industrial wastewater and developed microbial strains for antibiotic production during undergraduate studies. Javier holds a Master's degree in Ingeniería biológica y ambiental and a Bachelor's degree in Biotecnología from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
