Steve Auscavitch is a genomics contractor at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Natural History since February 2024, focusing on genomic characterization of deep-sea samples from the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. As a visiting researcher at Boston University since February 2021, Steve has also served as a postdoctoral associate. In a leadership role as Biology Science Lead for Ocean Exploration Trust since 2014, Steve has led multiple expeditions and managed the exploration vessel E/V Nautilus, overseeing laboratory operations and mentoring scientists and interns. Prior experiences include serving as a PhD research and teaching assistant at Temple University, lead scientist during NOAA expeditions, and research assistant at the University of Maine. Steve holds a PhD in Biology from Temple University and an MS in Marine Biology from the University of Maine, complemented by a BS in Marine Sciences from the University of Connecticut.
