Mary Beth Fitts is a seasoned research archaeologist currently working at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since August 2022. Fitts has extensive experience in various archaeological roles, including serving as the Assistant State Archaeologist with the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources since October 2016. Previous positions include instructor and research assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as working as an archaeologist for the US Forest Service and a historic sites specialist for the Florida Division of Historical Resources. Fitts holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MA in Applied Anthropology from the University of South Florida, and a BA in Anthropology from Wesleyan University.
