William D. Coggio has an extensive work experience in the chemical industry. William D. started their career at Dyneon as a Sr. Researcher/Lab Manager in 1998. In 1998, they also joined 3M Dyneon as a Sr. Development Specialist, where they worked on the polymerization, development, and commercialization of specialty fluoropolymers. William D. led a research group and implemented new polymerization technology for fluoroelastomers.

In 2004, Coggio moved to 3M as a Sr. Research Specialist, where they contributed to the development and commercialization of new optical hard coat coating technology and polymer coatings for the Display and Graphics Business Laboratory. William D. authored or co-authored multiple patents in this field and led commercialization teams.

From 2012 to 2013, Coggio worked at Cabot Corporation as the Global Applications Development Lead-Silicone Elastomers. William D. led global teams in the development and evaluation of new silica nanoparticles used as reinforcing fillers in silicone elastomers, with a focus on applications in the medical, industrial, and sealant markets.

In 2013, Coggio joined Bio-Amber as the Global Applications and Technology Support Manager. William D. was involved in the production of bio-based chemical building blocks using yeast fermentation technology. William D. worked on the replacement of petro-based diacids with renewable feedstock and the development of materials such as polyurethanes, polyesters, and polyamides.

Since 2016, Coggio has been working at NatureWorks. William D. initially served as the Application and Technology Development Manager, focusing on the production of Bio-Based Polylactic Acid (PLA). William D. later transitioned to the role of Principal Scientist. NatureWorks is involved in the production of PLA, a renewable bioplastic used in various industries, including food service ware, films, and durables.

William D. Coggio obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Western New England University, where they attended from 1982 to 1986. Following this, they pursued higher education at Penn State University, from 1986 to 1991, eventually earning a PhD in Chemistry.
