Soma Mukherjee

Principal Research Scientist at Eastman

Soma Mukherjee has a diverse work experience in the field of polymer characterization and synthesis. Starting from 2006, they worked as a Technical Officer at Asian PPG Industries Limited, where they developed new automotive coatings and achieved cost reduction and formulation efficiency improvement. From 2010 to 2012, while pursuing their PhD at Southern Methodist University, they synthesized and characterized functional polymers and investigated macromolecular stars. Subsequently, from 2012 to 2015, as a PhD Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Florida, they continued their research in polymer synthesis and characterization. From 2015 to 2017, they worked as an Advanced Scientist at Eastman, where they utilized various techniques to characterize polymeric materials and collaborated with cross-functional teams for analytical and application development. Finally, from 2018 to 2023, they held various roles at Eastman, including Senior Research Scientist and Principal Research Scientist, where they continued to research and troubleshoot problems related to polymeric materials. Throughout their career, they have focused on understanding structure-property relationships and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Soma Mukherjee earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta in 2002. SOMA went on to pursue a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Polymer Science & Technology from the same university, which they completed in 2005. Later, Soma Mukherjee obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Florida in 2015.
