Sarah-Jayne McCurrach is a seasoned professional in risk reduction and resilience, currently serving as Head of Risk Reduction & Resilience at the Natural Hazards Commission Toka TÅ« Ake since March 2020. Responsibilities include leading a team focused on mitigating natural hazard risks in New Zealand and advocating for relevant scientific research to influence policy. In addition, Sarah-Jayne has been a PhD Co-Supervisor at Victoria University of Wellington and held leadership roles in global initiatives such as co-chairing the Understanding Tsunami Risk working group for UNESCO. Previous experience includes managing the Hazard Risk Management Team at the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, overseeing a $2 million budget in hazard identification and management at Solid Energy New Zealand Ltd, and providing geological engineering expertise at URS Corporation. Sarah-Jayne holds a Master of Science in Geology/Earth Science from the University of Liverpool.
