Karun Vijayraghavan, PhD, began their work experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin in May 2010. During this time, they focused on designing terahertz (THz) and quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), and they successfully demonstrated the first electrically-pumped, room-temperature, mass-producible semiconductor source tunable from 1 – 6 THz. Karun also published their work in high impact journals.
In 2015, Dr. Vijayraghavan founded and became President of ATX Photonics LLC, a startup company that emerged from a UT Austin research lab. The company's main objective was to develop an electrically-pumped, room-temperature, mass-producible semiconductor source tunable from 1 – 6 THz. The technology had potential applications in materials inspection, spectroscopic chemical sensing, and non-invasive testing. Karun held this role until September 2016.
Since September 2016, Dr. Vijayraghavan has been working as a Senior Scientist/Optical Engineer at Nanohmics.
Karun Vijayraghavan, PhD earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Santa Barbara in 2008. Karun then pursued their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, completing it in 2010. Karun further continued their education at The University of Texas at Austin and obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical Engineering in 2014.
