Steven Oquendo is an accomplished music educator and conductor with extensive experience in music education, management, and performance. Currently serving as the NAfME All Eastern Jazz Band Manager at the National Association for Music Education since April 2023, Steven has also held the position of Associate Conductor for the All-City Latin Ensemble at the NYC Department of Education since September 2012. As the Founder and Music Director of the Steven Oquendo Latin Jazz Orchestra since 2010, Steven has made significant contributions to the Latin jazz community. Additional roles include Music Teacher and Band Director at Pelham Preparatory Academy and Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing Arts, as well as Jazz Director and Trumpet Instructor at the Harlem School of the Arts. Steven Oquendo's educational background includes a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Science in Music from Lehman College, along with studies at the Manhattan School of Music and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School.
