Abimbola Opeyemi Adegboye

Dr. Abimbola Opeyemi ADEGBOYE, from Ikire in Osun State southwest Nigeria, is the current Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS). He coordinates the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of plans, programmes, and projects of the Agency, conducting research on NAFDAC activities as well as other subjects of interest to the Agency. Also, as the pioneer Heads, he concurrently coordinates the Office of Trade and International Relations (OTIR) and Office of Research (OOR) both conceptualized by his principal and domiciled in the Director General’s Office.

His principal research and professional interests are in the field of food safety bordering on both qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments of the toxic and non-toxic contaminants in foods; thereby providing valuable scientific details necessary to inform and assist regulatory actions and policy formulations needed for safeguarding national food supply systems and aiding food trade economies.

Dr. Adegboye graduated from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Food Technology and had an interesting career in the private sector traversing bottling, fruits, and vegetable processing, vegetable oil extraction, cocoa industry, sugar, and dairy including commodities (1990-1999). The private sector experiences and acquired skills came in handy when he joined NAFDAC in January 2000. He developed himself further with the pursuits of Masters of Science in Environmental Resources Management and Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicines from the Lagos State University (2001) and University of Ibadan (2011) respectively.
