Director Of Security And Emergency Mangement at Mountainside Medical Center

Jonathan Miller, M Sc has a diverse work experience in the field of security and emergency management. Jonathan is currently working as the Director of Security and Emergency Management at Mountainside Medical Center, leading a team of 18 security personnel for the 396-bed medical center. Prior to this, they worked as a Security Specialist & Consultant at Buckley Petersen Global Inc. Jonathan has also served as a Safety and Security Specialist at Westwood Regional School District, where they collaborated with school administrators, staff, students, and law enforcement to address school safety needs. Additionally, Jonathan has been actively involved in professional organizations such as the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, and ASIS International, where they have served in various roles and contributed to the development of best practices in security. Jonathan has also founded and presided over the Bergen County Association of School Security Professionals, a professional group dedicated to sharing critical school security information among its members. Jonathan's extensive experience also includes 30 years in law enforcement, with leadership roles in the Glen Rock Police Department, where they prioritized school safety and developed critical incident response plans in collaboration with school officials and patrol. Jonathan has also served as the Administrative and Operational Coordinator of the Critical Incident Response Team at Glen Rock Public School District.

Jonathan Miller holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from New Jersey City University, which they obtained from 1989 to 1993. Prior to that, they attended Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus from 1979 to 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Political Science and Government. Additionally, Miller has obtained various certifications, including ASIS membership (obtained in 2020, 2021, and 2022), Covid-19 Contact Tracing from The Johns Hopkins University (obtained in 2020), and a Certified Emergency Medical Technician - D Instructor certification from the NJ Department of Health (obtained in 1981). Jonathan has also completed several training programs related to threat assessment, school security, emergency response, and more.
