Ken Johnson

Principal Scientist at Moderna Therapeutics

Ken Johnson is a Principal Scientist at Moderna since February 2023, specializing in assay development for Infectious Disease Bacterial Immunology, including FACS, live cell opsonophagocytic assays, toxin neutralization assays, and complement deposition assays. Previously, Ken served as a Scientist at Visterra Inc. from October 2014 to February 2022, where Ken established and led the Microbiology Department and conducted research on broad-spectrum antibiotics. Prior to that, Ken was a Senior Scientist at AstraZeneca R&D from May 2001 to October 2014, focusing on broad-spectrum antibiotics and antivirals with extensive experience in drug discovery processes. Ken's career began at Brigham and Women’s Hospital - Harvard Medical School from September 1990 to May 2001 as a Senior Technician/Lab Manager, conducting research on a multi-valent vaccine against group B Streptococcus. Ken holds a Master of Education (MEd) from UMass Boston and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology from Wesleyan University.
