Tian Wu has extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics. In 2010, they began their career as a Student Assistant at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, where they were responsible for DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing on aphids, as well as setting and collecting traps for insects in field work. In 2012, they were promoted to Entomology Research Technician at the same company, where they generated 3000+ insect DNA barcodes and provided technical supervision and guidance to several assistants and co-op students. In 2014, Wu became a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Western University, where they supervised group projects on microbiology experiments from design to presentation. In 2015, they founded and became President of the Mustang Bioinformatics Club, a 100+ member student organization, and organized a two-day bioinformatic workshop for 40+ people and other smaller workshops. In 2017, they joined Mevo as the Head Of Experience and Growth Coordinator. Later that year, they returned to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a Research Assistant, where they were responsible for performing bioinformatic analyses and assisting with molecular diagnostic protocols for the Canadian Bee Health Project.
Tian Wu has a Master's Degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Western University, which they obtained between 2014 and 2017. Prior to this, they obtained an Honours Specialization in Biology from the University of Ottawa between 2008 and 2012. In addition, they have obtained several certifications, including an Industry Performance Solving Week Participant certification from Western University in February 2016, an Ivey Entrepreneurship Startup Bootcamp Participant certification from Ivey Business School in October 2015, and two edX Honor Code Certificates for Case Study: RNA-seq data analysis and Statistics and R for the Life Sciences in June and May 2015, respectively.
