Simo Puumalainen has extensive work experience in various management and technical roles. Simo is currently the Head of Program Management Office at Metso since 2023. Prior to that, they held the same position at Metso Outotec starting in 2021. Simo also worked at Outotec as the Head of Deliver Service Process from 2016 to 2020. Simo has experience as a Senior Consultant at Simo Puumalainen Consulting in 2016. Simo has also worked as a Senior Manager Technical Services at Coriant, Inc. from 2014 to 2016. Before that, they had a long tenure at Tellabs where they held several roles including Senior Manager Technical Services and Director of New Product Introduction. Simo's early career began at ABB as a Development Engineer and Manager of Testing Systems, and they started as a Shift Supervisor at Rautaruukki Oy and Kajaani Oy.

Simo Puumalainen completed their education with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) in the years 1987-1991. Simo then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Engineering from Tampere University of Technology during the years 1991-1995. Additional certifications obtained include Certified SAFe® 5 Agilist from Scaled Agile, Inc. in 2021 and Certified SAFe® 6 Agilist (expected) in January 2023. Simo also has certifications in Agile Product Owner Role, Agile at Work, Quality Standards in Customer Service, and SAFe® 4.
