Vihren Kolev has over 30 years of experience in the scientific field. Vihren began their career as a student at Sofia University in 1990. In 2002, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Maine Medical Center. From 2009 to 2012, they were an Associate Member at the Broad Institute. From 2012 to 2016, Kolev worked at Verastem as a Senior Scientist and Scientist II. During this time, they led proof-of-concept in vitro and in vivo studies, demonstrated the mechanism of action of drug candidates, and established in vivo oncology models with xenografts and patient-derived xenografts. In 2016, they became a Scientist at Takeda Oncology. Finally, in 2022, Kolev was appointed Principal Scientist at METiS Therapeutics.
Vihren Kolev obtained a BS in Organic and Analytical Chemistry from Sofia University between 1990 and 1995. Vihren then went on to pursue a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the Institute of Molecular Biology in Sofia, Bulgaria, which they completed in 2002. Vihren also attended Paisii Hilendarski, though no degree was obtained.
