Lead Scientist - GCLP Biomarkers at Medicines Discovery Catapult

Andrzej Rutkowski has a diverse work experience in various scientific roles. Andrzej currently works at Medicines Discovery Catapult as the Lead Scientist, specializing in GCLP Biomarkers. Prior to this, they held a role as a Senior Scientist in Biomarkers at the same company.

Andrzej also has experience working at the UK Lighthouse Lab Network. Here, they took on multiple roles, including Assay Innovation and Evaluation Lead, where they managed a team and introduced innovation to improve the diagnostic process. Andrzej also worked as the Bioscience Lead, Quality Lead, and Supertrainer during the setup phase of a large diagnostic lab.

At AstraZeneca, Andrzej served as a Senior Scientist in Translational Genomics. Andrzej developed and optimized droplet digital PCR assays to detect mutated DNA in blood samples from patients on experimental anti-cancer drugs.

Earlier in their career, Andrzej worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, where they used cutting-edge technologies to study live transcription and translation in cells infected by herpes simplex virus-1.

Andrzej also volunteered as a Laboratory Technician at Public Health England, where they worked in the Sierra Leone Ebola Treatment Centre diagnostic lab during the Ebola outbreak.

Andrzej's work experience began as a PhD student at Cancer Research UK, where they investigated a putative paralogue of a cancer antigen and carried out molecular engineering techniques.

Andrzej Rutkowski earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cancer Research from The University of Manchester, where they studied from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from Jagiellonian University, studying from 2001 to 2007. Additionally, they completed a Master project in Life Sciences at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences from 2005 to 2006.
