Sheila Luther has a comprehensive work experience in the field of soil science. Sheila started their career at Oruro Centre of Planning in 1992 as a Soil Scientist and continued in the same role at Land Resources Network Ltd. in 1994. In 1995, they became a Soil Scientist Research Associate at the University of Alberta. Sheila then worked as a Soil Scientist at SENTAR Consultants Ltd. in 1996 before joining EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. in 1997. At EBA Engineering, they served as a Senior Soil Scientist until 2013. Since 2014, Sheila has been working as a Principal Soil Scientist at Matrix Solutions Inc. Overall, Sheila has gained extensive experience and expertise in the field of soil science throughout their career.

Sheila Luther attended the University of Saskatchewan from 1983 to 1989, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a focus on Agriculture, Crop Science, and Extension. Afterward, they pursued further education at the University of Alberta from 1990 to 1992, earning a Master of Science in Soil Science with a specialization in Soil Chemistry. Additionally, they hold a certification in the Alberta Subsoil Salinity Tool from the Government of Alberta. The dates of obtaining this certification are not specified.
