Helene Frigstad is an experienced researcher in the field of chemical oceanography, currently working at the Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) since February 2017. Prior to this role, Helene served as a Senior Advisor at Miljødirektoratet from June 2013 to January 2017 and worked as a researcher at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research under Uni Research from July 2012 to May 2013, focusing on regional and seasonal variability in marine carbon and nutrient cycles. Helene holds a PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the University of Bergen (UiB), where a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Biology were also obtained. Helene participated in exchange programmes in Marine Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the University of Hawai‘i System in 2004, and completed secondary education at Tyholmen Videregående Skole from 1999 to 2002.
