Stuart Boyle has a strong background in the energy industry, with extensive experience in various roles at National Grid and other organizations. Stuart started their career in 1989 as a Planning Engineer and later worked as a System Development Engineer and Customer Account Manager. In these roles, they were responsible for designing transmission customer connections, coordinating planned outages, and negotiating contractual changes. From 2001 to 2004, Boyle served as a Senior Regulatory Analyst, developing price controls and engaging with industry stakeholders. Stuart then took on the role of Electricity Manager for the Transmission Price Control Review 4, where they led work streams on electricity capital expenditure and benchmarking. Boyle joined National Grid Gas in 2005 as a Network Requirements Manager, overseeing gas network projects and implementing business changes. In 2010, they transferred to National Grid Electricity Transmission and worked as an RIIO Reporting Manager, analyzing capital investment and assessing delivery approaches. Stuart also held the position of Resource Optimization Manager, where they built a program management office and established resource optimization and earned value management capabilities. In 2013, Boyle moved to the National Grid Electricity System Operator, where they initially served as a Revenue Manager, forecasting and applying transmission network tariffs. Stuart then took on the role of Data & Modeling/System Modeling Manager, managing electricity network modeling and driving process efficiency through KPIs and problem solving. Most recently, Boyle worked as the Head of Market Design at Market Operator Services Limited, managing market arrangements code and wholesale retail code change portfolios and supporting strategic planning and market change implementation.
Stuart Boyle's education history dates back to 1980 when they attended The Windsor Boys School for five years. During this time, they did not obtain a degree or specialize in any particular field of study. In 1986, they enrolled at the University of Cambridge, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Engineering, which they completed in 1989.
After a gap of several years, Stuart returned to education in 1995, joining Strathclyde Business School. Over the course of three years until 1998, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Electricity Industry Management & Technology. This program emphasizes the management and technological aspects of the electricity industry.
In addition to their educational background, Stuart has also obtained various certifications. In 2018, they achieved the PRINCE2® 2017 Foundation & Practitioner certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice. This certification focuses on project management. In 2017, they obtained the Adult Mental Health First Aid certification from Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England, which highlights their knowledge and skills in providing support for mental health concerns. Most recently, in 2020, they earned the BCS Professional Certificate in Stakeholder Engagement from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. This certification illustrates their competence in effectively engaging stakeholders in IT-related projects or initiatives.
