John Bajacan

Scientist, Chemistry at Lytica Therapeutics

John enjoys a multidisciplinary approach to scientific research. He began his research career with organic synthesis towards an anti-HIV CCR5 antagonist natural product followed by research in the quantification of a major DNA biomarker of oxidative stress and in the mutagenesis of DNA abasic sites. Later on, John pursued additional bacteriology training through investigations of group B streptococcus infection of intestinal epithelia and neutrophils in the Dubbs lab and acquired classic virological techniques through studies on chikungunya viral infection in the Ubol lab at Mahidol University. These research experiences have allowed John to explore various fields including synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bacteriology. He joins the team at Lytica Therapeutics in the hopes of growing in and growing with the company in their groundbreaking approach against one of the most crucial global health threats of our time, antimicrobial resistance. John received a B.S. summa cum laude in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship. He also holds an M.S. in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University.
