Ashish Kumar Datta has a diverse work experience in the chemical industry. Ashish Kumar started their career in 1990 as a Research and Development Chemist at Asian Paints. Ashish Kumar then moved on to work as a Senior Area Manager at Shalimar Paints from 1993 to 1996. Following that, they joined DIC India Limited as a Regional Manager, where they worked until 2007. In 2007, they briefly worked as a National Sales Manager at Valspar. From 2008 to 2011, they served as the General Manager of Toyo Ink Group. Currently, they are working with The Lubrizol Corporation as the Business Director of the Performance Coatings Group since 2011.

Ashish Kumar Datta has a diverse education background. In 1984, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Chemistry from Mithibai College of Arts Chauhan Institute of Science and A.J. College of Commerce and Economics. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute Of Chemical Technology from 1987 to 1990. Additionally, they completed a BTech degree in Polymers from the same institution during the same time period. Later, from 1991 to 1994, they earned an MBA degree in Business Administration and Management from SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). In 1998 to 1999, they pursued a degree in Enterprise Resource Planning at the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai. Lastly, in 2014 to 2015, they obtained expertise in Business plan development and Business Case development from the Harvard Extension School.
