Director Of Labs at Liberty in North Korea

Jieun Baek has held various positions throughout their career. Jieun has worked as a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council since 2023. Previously, they served as the Director of Labs at Liberty in North Korea starting in 2022. In 2021, they were a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations. From 2018, Jieun was the Founder/Co-director of Lumen, a nonprofit organization focused on research and technological innovation for information access in closed societies, with a specific focus on North Korea. Jieun also worked as the Research Manager for "Technology and Human Rights in North Korea" at Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy from 2022 to 2023. Before that, Jieun was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center from 2020 to 2022. Jieun started their career in 2010 as an Account Manager at Google.

Jieun Baek pursued their education with fervor, starting with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Harvard University, which they completed from 2005 to 2010. Eager to further their knowledge in the field, they pursued a Masters in Public Policy with a focus on International and Global Affairs at the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School from 2012 to 2014.

Not content with just one impressive degree, Jieun Baek aimed higher and enrolled in the University of Oxford to pursue a PhD in Public Policy. Jieun dedicated herself to their studies from 2016 to 2020, immersing herself in the world of academic research and analysis.
