Jan-Wolter Smit has held various roles in the education sector since 1997. From 1997 to 2006, they were the founder and CEO of The Infinite Time Traveler | Geschiedenisleraar.nl, providing educational services to schools, teachers, publishers and other institutions. From 2006 to 2016, they were an author for Feniks, an editor for De Digitale Klas, and an interim editor for Feniks for the upper level HV 2nd phase. In 2016, they became the Head of Education, Chief Content Officer, Chief Evangelist Officer, Head of Customer Success, Head of Community and Content, Head of Community, and Educatief Adviseur for LessonUp. In 2017, they were part of the Rijksmuseum's Teamlid Klankbordgroep Educatie and a teacher of Jan-Wolter'story and Education Coordinator for Bonhoeffer College. In 2018, they became the Uitgever | Publisher for tijd\ud83d\udd34stip and the Hoofdredacteur | Editor-in-chief TOEN! for TOEN!. Jan-Wolter also held the role of Commissielid for VGN VMBO Commissie in 2016 and 2005, and was a teacher of Jan-Wolter'story and Education Coordinator, Projectleider Leren met ICT (iPad-klassen), and Co\u00f6rdinator Vaardighedenonderwijs for De Waerdenborch from 1997 to 2017.

Jan-Wolter Smit, LoG completed a Bachelor of Education - BEd from Hogeschool Midden Nederland in 1995, with a field of study in Docent Geschiedenis en Staatsinrichting. Jan-Wolter then completed a Bachelor of Education - BEd from Hogeschool Edith Stein in 1999, with a field of study in Leerkracht Basisonderwijs. Prior to this, they attended Twents Carmellyceum, Oldenzaal from 1987 to 1991, and Antoniuscollege, Gouda from 1985 to 1987.
