Johanna Kao has extensive experience in the Asia-Pacific region, holding various senior positions in organizations such as the International Republican Institute, Atlantic Council, and Asia Society. With a background in political science and law, Johanna has managed significant projects funded by organizations like USAID and DRL in countries like China, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste. Johanna has also worked as a researcher/reporter for Time Magazine, covering events such as the Hong Kong handover. Johanna currently serves as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, providing strategic advice and programmatic support for programs in the Asia Division.
