Sofia Cruz is an experienced professional in the field of law and migration, currently serving as Head of Unit and Project Coordinator at IOM - UN Migration since June 2017. Prior roles include Legal Advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries from March 2015 to May 2017, and Legal and Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State at the Secretariat of State for Security, Ministry of Defense and Security from January 2013 to February 2015. Earlier experience encompasses positions as Legal Advisor at CRA Timor and the Portuguese Refugee Council. Sofia Cruz holds a Master's degree in Human Rights and Democratisation from the European Inter-University Centre, a Master's degree in International Law and International Relations from the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon, and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Faculty of Law, Portuguese Catholic University. Additional education includes completion of an E-Academy on Labour Migration at the International Training Centre of the ILO in 2020 and a recent program at Harvard Business School in 2023.
