Fernando Vaz Afonso currently serves as Vice President and Board Member at INTERFARMA since March 2022, and also as Board Member & Rare Disease Lead at the Pharmaceutical Industry Association (INTERFARMA). In addition, Fernando has been the General Manager at Vertex Pharmaceuticals since February 2018. Previous positions include Commercial Senior Director for Oncology at AstraZeneca, where responsibilities encompassed leading multiple teams within the Oncology Business Unit in Brazil, and various senior roles at Novartis, leading marketing, sales, and business franchises in Oncology and Rare Diseases. Fernando holds multiple advanced degrees, including MBAs from Universidad Austral and the University of Miami, and has participated in leadership development programs at institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School.
