Steve Pope has over 30 years of work experience in the nuclear energy industry. Steve began their career in 1982 as a Senior Project Engineer at General Electric Nuclear Energy where they performed preoperational testing and power ascension programs at various nuclear power plants. In 1990, they joined Halburton NUS Environmental Corporation as a Senior Systems Engineer, supporting the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy by conducting operational readiness reviews and analyzing regulatory developments.
In 1992, Steve transitioned to SCIENTECH, Inc. where they served as a Principal Engineer and Project Manager, working on projects such as developing a 3-year get-well plan for Brunswick Nuclear Plant and prioritizing capital projects based on safety and plant enhancement. Steve then moved to USEC in 1998 as a Senior Regulatory Engineer, coordinating efforts to revise safety analysis reports for the Portsmouth and Paducah facilities.
Steve's career continued at General Physics Corporation in 1998 as a Senior Consultant, where they validated safety documents and developed change packages to correct design and safety documentation. Steve joined Constellation Nuclear Services in 2000 as a Senior Project Manager, conducting readiness assessments for utility clients planning license renewal applications to the NRC.
From 2003 to 2010, Steve worked at Information Systems Laboratories, Inc. as a Principal Engineer, coordinating commercial plant security assessments for the NRC and managing support tasks to the NRC Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response. Steve then joined Babcock & Wilcox mPower, Inc. in 2010 as a Licensing Supervisor, providing design licensing support for the design certification application to the NRC.
In 2015, Steve joined NuScale Power, LLC as a Senior Licensing Engineer, leading the coordination with the NRC technical staff and conducting design overview training. Currently, they are working at Information Systems Laboratories as a Senior Project Manager.
Steve Pope holds a Master's degree in Energy and Environmental Management from The George Washington University - School of Engineering & Applied Science, which they obtained from 1992 to 1995. Steve also has a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University School of Nuclear Engineering, which they completed from 1973 to 1977. In addition to their formal education, Steve Pope has obtained various certifications, including Learning Skype and Learning Zoom from LinkedIn in March 2020. Steve also completed certifications in Working Remotely (2015), Building Resilience, and Managing Your Time from LinkedIn in December 2019.
