Stefanie (Stef) Hirsch

Director of Project Management at Indiewalls

Stef Hirsch has a wealth of experience in the art industry. Stefanie (Stef) began their career in 2004 as an Intern at Artists Space, where they maintained the Irving Sander digital artist file and responded to inquiries about the space. In 2005, they served as the Modern and Contemporary Art Intern at the Johnson Museum of Art, where they assisted with research for upcoming exhibitions. From 2006-2010, they were Co-Curator of History of Art Majors Society Exhibitions, co-curating a yearly exhibition which included extensive study into the museum's collection as well as included off-site loans, securing guest speakers and producing a catalogue. In 2008, they were a Curatorial Intern at The Kitchen. In 2009, they transformed a small subterranean space on Kingsland Road, E2 into an exhibition space as the Curator / General Manager at Gallery St. Vitus. In 2010, they were a Curatorial Intern (Modern and Contemporary) at Tate. In 2011, they were a Guest Curator at The David Roberts Art Foundation, co-establishing a curatorial framework and conducting research to create the exhibition Fig 3. In 2012, they were at Wilkinson Gallery, assisting with all aspects of programing and organizational support for upcoming exhibitions, which included liaising with gallery artists, completing loan forms, helping to maintain the gallery database, writing press releases and other informational texts about artworks. In 2016, they began working at Indiewalls | Design With Art as Director of Art Curation, Senior Curator and Curatorial PM. Also in 2016, they were the Curatorial Intensive Coordinator at ICI (Independent Curators International). In 2013, they were a Research Assistant, School of Visual Art at the Royal College of Art, supporting Fine Art staff in the development, writing, editing and coordination of materials for research grant applications to fund artworks, symposia, publications, conferences and other research-led activities focused on visual art.

Stef Hirsch completed a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) from Cornell University, where they studied Art History and Sculpture. Stefanie (Stef) then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Goldsmiths, University of London, where they studied Curating.
